Our Foundation
"Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." — Matthew 17:20
Mountains Move Law was built on the belief that faith and justice belong together. We bring that conviction to every client, every case, every day.
Our Story
A practice built on faith, purpose, and the belief that everyone deserves a fair fight.
Mountains Move Law was founded by the Honorable Matthew S. Anderson — a former Orange County Superior Court judge whose two-and-a-half decades on the bench were defined by one conviction: that people struggling with addiction and caught in the criminal legal system deserve restoration, not just punishment.
Judge Anderson began his legal career as a Deputy Public Defender for the Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office and later served as a Senior Deputy District Attorney for the Orange County District Attorney's Office — giving him a rare, three-dimensional understanding of the criminal justice system from every angle.
He was appointed to the Orange County Municipal Court by Governor Pete Wilson in 1998 and elevated to the Superior Court that same year. Starting in 2000, he presided over the Drug and DUI courts within the Orange County Collaborative Courts programs — eventually leading the DUI court at the Newport Beach Harbor Justice Center to become one of only four designated national academy courts, serving as a model for other jurisdictions across the country.
Over more than 1,000 graduates and more than two decades of service, Judge Anderson's courtroom became known as a place where accountability and compassion coexisted — where lives were genuinely changed. He received the Community Education Award (2002), was named Judge of the Year by the Orange County Narcotics Officers' Association (2004), earned the national DWI Court Leadership Award from the National Association of Drug Court Professionals (2016), and was recognized as a "Leader in Prevention" by the Wellness & Prevention Center of South Orange County.
Now, Judge Anderson brings that same passion to private practice. Mountains Move Law exists because he believes the fight for freedom — real freedom from addiction, from the criminal justice system, from a record that follows you — is worth taking on every single day.
Get in TouchWe are guided by a deep commitment to justice and mercy — principles that shape how we approach every case and every client relationship.
We don't back down. Every client deserves a tenacious, skilled advocate who will exhaust every avenue on their behalf.
Legal troubles are life-altering. We meet clients where they are — with patience, honesty, and genuine care for their wellbeing.
We look beyond the courtroom — connecting clients with recovery resources, support networks, and the community they need to rebuild.
The Name Behind the Firm
In Matthew 17:20, Jesus tells his disciples: "Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."
The mustard seed is the smallest of all seeds — nearly invisible, easy to overlook, easy to dismiss. And yet, Jesus chose it as the symbol of faith not because it starts large, but because of what it becomes. A mustard seed planted in the right soil grows into something that provides shelter, sustenance, and shade. It doesn't require perfection. It only requires planting.
That is the promise at the heart of Mountains Move Law. We work with people who often feel like they have nothing left — no hope, no options, no way forward. The criminal justice system can feel like a mountain too large and too heavy to move. Addiction can feel like a wall with no door.
"Nothing will be impossible for you."
Matthew 17:20
But we have seen mountains move. We have watched people step out of courtrooms with their freedom intact, walk out of treatment programs with their lives restored, and rebuild from places that seemed unreachable.
All it takes to begin is the smallest seed of faith — in yourself, in the process, in the possibility that things can change. We will do the rest. That is our purpose. That is our promise.

What Drives Us
"Successfully treating addicts is a complex and difficult task. Breaking deadly habits takes consistency with enforced accountability." — The Honorable Matthew S. Anderson
After more than two decades on the bench and 1,000+ lives changed through drug and DUI court, Judge Anderson brings that same drive — and that same heart — to private practice.
Get in TouchWhat We Handle
From the courtroom to the recovery room — we're in your corner every step of the way.
Facing criminal charges is one of the most frightening experiences a person can go through. The consequences — lost freedom, a permanent record, shattered relationships — are severe. Mountains Move Law provides vigorous criminal defense representation at every stage of the process, from the moment of arrest through trial, sentencing, and appeal.
We investigate thoroughly, challenge the prosecution's evidence, protect your constitutional rights, and pursue every available defense strategy — all while keeping you informed and supported throughout.
Addiction is a health crisis, not a moral failing — and the legal system is slowly catching up to that reality. Mountains Move Law is uniquely positioned to help clients whose legal troubles are rooted in addiction, advocating for treatment-based outcomes over incarceration wherever possible.
We work with drug courts, diversion programs, and treatment providers to help clients find a path toward genuine recovery. We also assist individuals and families navigating the civil and legal challenges that often accompany addiction — from custody concerns to employment issues.
The decisions made early in a criminal case can determine its outcome. We engage early — analyzing charges, reviewing evidence, identifying constitutional issues, and building the most powerful defense strategy possible before setting foot in the courtroom.
Not every legal problem fits neatly into one box. When your situation involves family law, business disputes, estate planning, immigration, or other areas outside our primary focus, we connect you with trusted, vetted attorneys in our network — so you always have the right advocate in your corner.
